He studied law in Colombia, his home country, where he received his Juris Doctor degree from Universidad de los Andes in Bogota. Having attained the highest historical grade point average of the law school, Diego graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006, the highest distinction ever awarded until such date by the Academic Council of his university.
Diego started practicing law in Colombia with renowned legal firms such as Brigard Urrutia and Zuleta Suárez Araque & Jaramillo, as well as with an important trust company of Grupo Aval, the largest financial and banking conglomerate in the country. After being awarded a scholarship by New York University (NYU) in 2008, Diego moved to Manhattan to pursue the master’s degree (Master of Laws – LL.M.) in Corporation Law and Finance. Upon completing his master’s degree with honors, he successfully passed the New York State Bar Examination and was therefore admitted to practice law in the State of New York. Diego currently holds valid licenses and is fully authorized to practice law in both New York State and the Republic of Colombia.
Diego started practicing corporate law in New York at the prestigious international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke (currently Norton Rose Fulbright), as part of the team responsible for handling Latin American clients, under the supervision of then partner Carlos Albarracín, one of his key career mentors.
As a result of the work done with Mr. Albarracín, Diego attained significant negotiation skills and legal writing and contract review experience in highly complex international corporate and financial transactions. During this period, Diego worked in (1) structuring offerings and issuing bonds and stocks for Latin American companies in US capital markets, usually pursuant to Rule 144A and/or Regulation S, (2) negotiating and structuring syndicated international financings and multilateral loans for major infrastructure projects in Latin America, and (3) representing large Latin American corporations, as buyers or sellers, in complex cross-border corporate merger and acquisition deals.Building on his education and legal professional experience, Diego decided to work in the real estate business and in 2011 became the General Counsel at Prodigy Network, a real estate investment firm located in Manhattan. During his tenure, Diego realized he was particularly attracted to the more commercial side of the real estate business. Consequently, as of 2013, he concentrated on marketing and brokering real estate in Miami and New York, focusing on providing high quality services mainly to international investors.
Currently, Diego is particularly proud of successfully establishing DGS REAL ESTATE, attaining a significant sales volume in Miami and New York, and especially of the resolve, increasing command, and work ethics that allowed him to progressively develop his international client base.
Diego firmly believes his clients are his most valued assets and, to that extent, endeavors to nurture them for life. Therefore, interacting with his clients is by no means limited to conducting a real estate transaction, but rather to taking the time to build a close, respectful, trustworthy, and mutually beneficial relationship. In fact, Diego strives to guarantee his undivided attention to each of his clients’ needs and expectations, ensuring they do not feel exposed, unattended or, even less, ill advised.
Clients working with Diego recognize they have a friendly advisor that provides them with hands-on, uninterrupted, personalized customer service. Diego is passionate about international politics and philosophy, as well as an avid reader and a disciplined athlete who enjoys his daily gym routines to the fullest extent. When he is not traveling internationally to visit actual and potential new clients, he dedicates his free time to enjoy the beach, spend time with his friends, and, if and when possible, travel around the world to visit and learn as much as he can about its wonders.
